Spoff seeks to blend sporty-chic shapes with girlish flourishes - a fitting style for the Romanian brand, whose name comes from a combination of the words “sport” and “fluff.” Spoff’s co-creators Laura Bonciu and Patricia Adascalitei made their New York Fashion Week debut at No.3 NYFW, unveiling their SS17 “Soft Power” line filled with edgy, unexpected pairings of candy-colored accessories, such as bejeweled house slippers, with their uniquely bold streetwear looks. Having only met a year ago while partnered together on a university project for Romanian Design Week, Bonciu and Adascalitei have had a busy 2016. The pair have designed three collections under the Spoff brand, which was just launched in April of this year. Things picked up for them shortly after their brand’s launch, when they presented their SS16 capsule collection at Feeric Fashion Week in Romania earlier this summer. Things are continuing to move at a rapid pace for Spoff, with the launch of the brand’s FW16 line planned for release this month in Romanian boutiques, and more collections in the works.

Bonciu explains: “We’re pleased to showcase something here that’s totally new and forward, but usually designers work with more than one collection per season. You’re always adding something new to your next collection when you are in different stages of production or preparation.” With several collections already completed and more on the way, the Spoff team is happy to rise to the challenge of working on a project they love. “We’re young, and everything happens so fast. We’re actually not aware of what is happening and how it’s happening, and this is an amazing experience for us,” Bonciu says. “We’re just seeing how we’re evolving and how much we’re improving more and more. All this pressure I think makes us better people.” From the looks of their SS17 “Soft Power” collection at the No.3 NYFW event, it’s evident that Spoff is a brand to watch.
